A Finnish photoblog
This is how a photographer sees the world: wide-angled. I drew and painted this architectural image with a pen and ink. Main idea of this schoolwork was to practice drawing geometric perspective. This was done in an orthodox chuch located near the school.
And yes, the church really does have that Terminator 2 floor.
I was at the Digiexpo (a digital entertainment and consumer electronics event) today. Thank you, Canon Oy, for the tickets. There was all kinds of electronic devices for us mortals to touch and fondle – while spreading the swine flu – but I’m not gonna write about those. Go and see yourself if you like. And remember to wash your hands.
I read the latest National Geographic in the train. The magazine included an interesting news article about ecofont. I mean, wow. A font with holes in it. It’s not a beautiful font, but it can save money. According to font’s website, it saves up to 20% of ink. NG tells us that a company with 5 000 emploees can save almost 100 000 euros per year in printing costs. That’s a good alternative for firing people.
And Nebular spool (Ugress’s side project) has released a new album called Shul. Ugress offered the background music for my portfolio in 2007. The new album can be heard on Spotify, but if you demand quality (320kbps mp3 or FLAC for example), download it from here. You can pay as much as you like.
Yep, I was at the Finlandia Hall today. Canon Oy was nice enough to give me free tickets, but they were only for the evening gala, so I wasn’t able to see the daytime shows without paying.
I explored, examined and probed the exhibitions. Some of the exhibition images were printed on a transparent paper and were backlit. Good idea, but some of the lamps were broken, and it was reaaaally hard to see the photo.
I was at Helsinki way too early: at 11.00. I didn’t want to pay for daytime shows, and I couldn’t figure out how to pass 5 hours at Helsinki, so I just went home. No gala for me this time. But at least I saw the exhibitions. The most memorable exhibition was the one by Kari Poppis Suomela. Those images from the South Pole were running as a slide show on a high def TV. And it really kept me watching for some time.
Sorry foreigners, this is only for Finns.
The new portfolio consists of 39 photographs (plus intro image), thus making it the widest set of images I’ve ever had in portfolio. The images have been taken within 3 months period so there is about 3 images per week.
Music has been composed to match the images by Jonne Toivo. See and hear for yourself: www.sourander.com
Comments are mostly welcome.
There was a fire right in the middle of Kajaani’s central last friday. Fire ignited somewhere after 3 at night, but we vigilant press photographers, myself and Ville-Petteri, were ready to take photos. No one got hurt, but citizens of Kajaani won’t be getting any hot wings, since a soon-to-be-opened restaurant Linnankulma got burned.
